Santa Cruz and the mill road
During our city tour we will learn much about the history of the capital city and its historic buildings. The mill road gives us an insight into the difficult work of La Palma's population. The water wealth of the Barranco del Rio was used cleverly to connect several mills in succession. In Las Nieves we will visit the Sanctuary of the patron saint of the island, one 80cm large terracotta figure in costly array. We see ancient paintings and statues, a carved wooden church ceiling and an altar, richly decorated of Mexican silver booty. The Bar in Las Nieves invites us to stop. Then we walk back through the ravine to Sta. Cruz.
